TUNIS, April 9, 2011 (TAP) – “The World Bank (WB) is working in close collaboration with the Interim Government in Tunisia for a multi sector-based support” said Mr. Simon Gray, Director of the Maghreb Department in the World Bank, on the occasion of the visit paid in Tunisia, this week, by Mrs. Shamshad Akhtar, WB Deputy-Chairperson for the Middle East and North Africa (MEAN) region.

The post-Revolution co-operation aimed to increase transparency, citizen’s participation and “social responsibilisation” further noted Mr. Gray.

Concretely, employments are to be created by backing up growth of the private sector and economic and social inclusion notably in the underprivileged regions.

To materialise these objectives, “we are delighted to be able to mobilise the necessary support, expertise and international experience of the World Bank, he reiterated in a communiqué released public on Friday.

In turn, Mrs. Akhtar voiced “the World Institution readiness to support the Tunisian people as they are writing a new chapter of their history”.

The official had conferred, during her stay in Tunisia, on April 6-9, 2011, with the Interim Prime Minister and several Interim Government members, on issues pertaining to governance, employment and disparities in growth at the regional level.

On the financial level, the WB official said that the World Institution is working with the Tunisian authorities to “make a macro-economic assessment of the situation and examine Tunisia’s needs in specific programmes”.

“In the coming weeks and months, it will be very important to increase our interaction with the civil society”, estimates WB representative, in another connection.
