When reviewing the names of individuals recorded on the voter registration lists from July 11th to August 14th, the Independent High Authority for the Elections (ISIE) discovered the names of 118 deceased individuals.

Mme Bouzaiane, a member of ISIE, told Tunisia Live that this is clearly a case of fraud. The organization is still working to check the names of individuals registered in the municipalities to detect similar abuses.  Bouzaiane also asserted that ISIE would investigate each case.  She added that every person found guilty of fraud during the registration process would be penalized.  The penalty is up to six months of jail time and payment of 1000 Dinars (730 USD).

It is true that ISIE has taken many measures to ensure the transparency of elections. However, news of fraud and the registration of deceased individuals on the voting lists hearkens back to a time when Ben Ali and his allies were cheating behind the scenes and forging the results of the elections.
