Commander Khouildi Lahmidi, one of Colonel Gaddafi’s right-hand men, was released by Tunisian authorities yesterday, but he faces investigation and cannot leave the country.

Lahmidi was arrested as a precautionary measure on Wednesday in Tunis-Carthage Airport when he was getting ready to leave Tunisian territory. He declared that he entered Tunisia illegally. He was later referred to public prosecution of the district court of Tunis, which decided to confiscate his passport to prevent him from travelling.

Khouildi Lahmidi is being questioned by Tunisian authorities to determine whether he should be pursued by the new Libyan authorities or by Interpol. Talal Ben Gouider, member of the Libyan popular committee, was also detained and is to appear in court for the same charges as Lahmidi.

The Tunisia and the Libyan National Transition Council (NTC) have agreed to work closely regarding security issues.
