Press Code Approved Today by HAARO
Today, September 22nd, the final draft of the Press Code will be approved by the High Authority for the Achievement of the Revolutionary Objectives (HAARO). This meeting is exceptional because the draft will be approved regardless of the quorum and the number of present members.
Several amendments were added to the initial draft suggested by the National Committee for Media Reform (INRIC). Two chapters were deleted and two were amended.
One of the most important measures in the Press Code is a law organizing the process of issuing a professional journalist card. A representative committee will be created to take charge of such details.
Under chapter eleven of the new code, the journalist has become more immune because only a court order can force the journalist to reveal a source.
HAARO is also drafting a statement today condemning violators of a ban on political advertising. HAARO is concerned with this wave of violations, saying they jeopardize the electoral process. A subcommittee was formed for the occasion with the mission of monitoring the situation and including all the violations in an official statement on the behalf of HAARO.
