Heavy rains in the last few days caused damage in several towns northwest of Tunisia due to the flooding of the Mejerd River. Mejez El Bab is the most threatened town. Many people found themselves encircled by water or with water in their homes, ruining belongings.

Heavy rains backed up behind the Sidi Salem dam, and operators were forced to release a large amount of water because the dam was at capacity. Military forces and the national guard are on standby, expecting a further release of water from the dam without knowing the accurate time. There appears to be no short-term solution to the problem.
