"Japanese Tourists Are Mostly Interested in Cultural Tourism", Ahmed Jaouadi States.

Tunisia is planning to increase the flow of Japanese Tourists toward Tunisia. This is what Habib Ammar, CEO of the National Office for Tunisian Tourism (ONTT), declared in a training organized with the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The training was organized in Hamammet, a touristic coastal city, and the main topic was “policies of development of tourism sector”.

Ammar reported to TAP that there are 15 million Japanese tourists visiting countries all over the world, and only 13.000 of them come to Tunisia. This is why the ONTT will focus on attracting Japanese tourists by promoting Saharian and cultural tourism. The Office is working on diversifying the initiative by taking steps such as increasing the knowledge about Japanese culinary art in touristic schools.

Ahmed Jaouadi, a guide who works in the tourism industry, explains that Japanese tourist are well traveled and have a high purchasing power.  ”This is why we have to show that Tunisia is an exceptional Destination”, Jaouadi stated. “Also, our guides should learn Japanese in order to satisfy these customers.”

The representative of JICA, Tomi Zaoua Wben, announced that a delegation of the agency will visit Tunisia next December to see how to attract a higher number of Japanese tourists to Tunisia.
