A new Islamic TV channel, “Al Kalam” (The Pen) will be created by a group of Imams from Sfax, in Southern Tunisia.

According to local journalists in Sfax, Nouredine Khadmi – Tunisia’s current Minister of Religious Affairs – will be the founder of the channel. Before his career in the new government, Khadmi was the Imam of the Al-Fath mosque in Tunis.

While already granted legal status, the new Islamic TV channel has no headquarters yet.

Al Kalam will broadcast programs discussing Islamic issues, aiming at assisting Tunisians in search of religious answers to contemporary times. The founders want to distinguish themselves from other Islamic channels, stating that such channels do not necessarily represent the views of Tunisian Muslims.

The new Islamic TV channel calls for funds and expects to be supported by other countries.
