A popular initiative was recently proposed to the Tunisian and Libyan governments for the consideration of opening a third border crossing between the two countries. The crossings at Dhehiba and Ras Jadir are currently the only two crossing points between Libya and Tunisia.

A caravan departed from the southern-Tunisian town of Tattaouin, on Sunday, January 8th towards Machhed Saleh – a region located on the border with Libya. The Tunisian caravan was met by a Libyan caravan traveling from Zintan and other neighboring areas.

The suggested region for the border crossing is Machhed Saleh Tiji – located 61 kilometers north of Dhehiba, and 100 Kilometers south of Ras Jadir.

This project would allow for direct passage between the Tunisian town of Tattaouin and the Libyan town of Zintan.
