Demonstration in support of the Syrian revolution

A number of demonstrators gathered today, January 21st, at the Human Rights Plaza in Mohamed V, brandishing Syrian flags in support of the Syrian Revolution.

The demonstration was organized by the Association of the Syrian Diaspora in Tunisia, in cooperation with the Tunisian Association for Defending the Syrian Revolution.

Abdallah al-Turkmani, member of the Syrian National Council, attended the revolution. Al-Turkmani states that, “this protest is meant to spread awareness among the Tunisian public, which will in turn pressure the government to acknowledge the Syrian National Committee”

Al-Turkmani asserts that the Syrian people initially did not wish for any form of foreign intervention in the country. However, the Syrian regime has left them no choice but to seek Arab intervention. Al-Turkmani asserts that after the failure of the Arab League intervention, the Syrian people are seeking the support of the international community.

Al-Turkmani states, “the West is not as evil as everyone portrays it to be. Syria is a member of the United Nations, which has human rights mechanisms that can provide Syrians with the support they need.”
