Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki

The African Union (AU) Summit officially kicked off in Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa on Monday, January 23rd. Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki will be attending the gathering on January 28th. This is the 18th AU Summit, and will be held at the AU Commission Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

This year’s summit will be focused on addressing methods of reinforcing economic ties between member states as a method of stimulating intra-African trade. UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, General Director of the WTO Pascal Lamy, and a number of other recognized international figures will be present to witness the topic debated amongst African leaders and economic experts.

According to the press attaché at the Presidential Palace, Marzouki will address the Presidential forum of the summit at the opening and closing sessions of the forum – on the 29th and 30th respectively.

Marzouki will be attending a number of sessions featured by the summit and will meet with various other African heads of state.

The African Union Summit, which started on January 23rd, is scheduled to conclude on January 3oth.
