Tunisian soccer striker, Issam Jemaa

The Tunisian national soccer team won their second victory in the African Nations Cup tonight against Niger by a score of 2-1.

The decisive goal came from Issam Jemaa, the national team’s striker, at the 90th minute, making for a dramatic finish. With the win, Tunisia is now on top of Group C with 6 points and big chances to pass on to the second round of qualification.

Cafes in Tunis erupted with the cheers of football fans after the victory this evening.

“Despite the current difficult economic situation and the daily sit-ins, it is good to see that Tunisia can succeed in one area,” states Zied Omrani, a builder who watched the game at a cafe in downtown Tunis.

On Monday, Tunisia beat Morocco by a score of 2-1, with goals by midfielders Khaled Korbi and Youssef Msakni

Tunisia’s next game will be against Gabon, the host country of the tournament, on January 31st. The game will determine Tunisia’s ranking and chances to qualify for the second round.
