A protest was organized today by the National Union for Security Forces in Al Kasbah square announcing the beginning of a strike.  The protesters demanded protection during duty as well as improvement of their working conditions.

They also called for investigation into the attacks, such as stone throwing and other harassment, that they have been subject to since the revolution.

The streets of Tunisia will not be void of a security presence during the strike: The National Union for Security Forces is a branch of the larger National Union for Police, and covers only a minority of active officers.

Abd Satar Moussa, head of Human Rights League (LTDH), was present at the protest today to listen to the officers’ demands. “The league expresses its support for the demands of the security forces, because it is their right. However, we are against any sort of protest. We support their demands but not the protest,” he stated.

According to the press release announcing the protest, an open strike starts today until their demands are officially met. The protesters are also planning on starting a march tomorrow at 10 am from the Ministry of Interior.
