Khamis, the son of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, was reportedly captured in the Regdaleen area near the northwestern city of Zuwara yesterday evening, according to Abdelaziz Bakka, the administrative director of the Jebel Nefusa battalion.

Bakka said that the injured Khamis was accompanied by his doctor. It is believed he has had a leg amputated.

Khamis was thought to have been killed on August 29th, 2011 in a NATO airstrike in Tarhuna, a town 80 kilometers south-east of Tripoli.

Libyan forces are encircling the Regdaleen area in anticipation of capturing more Gaddafi loyalists. Bakka told Tunisia Live “we had information about the whereabouts of other wanted Gaddadfi officials thanks to the recent confessions of prisoners in Zuwara.”

A military battalion is reportedly heading towards the Ras Jedir border crossing at the Libyan-Tunisian border to prevent loyalists from escaping. ”We have been mobilized since 9 pm and are ready for any attack,” Bakka said. He added that other Gaddafi officials were also suspected to be hiding in the area.
On February 25th, 2012, NTC president Mustafa Abduljalil denied in a press conference in Tripoli that Khamis Gaddafi was captured.
