Tunisia’s technological sector received a visit from interim Prime Minister Hamadi Jebali yesterday, according to TAP. Prime Minister Hamadi Jebali visited the Telnet Group in les Berges du Lac along with the minister of education, the minister of information and communication technology, and the economic adviser to the prime minister.

Jebali stated that the purpose of yesterday’s visit was to learn more about Tunisia’s high-tech sector and to chair a session of the High Level Committee for Science and Technology.

Since the revolution, Tunisia has become increasingly interested in developing the country’s high-tech sectors. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is emerging as a strong economic and educational force for the future of the country. One example of development within the field is the establishment of SESAME, a new Graduate School of Applied Sciences and Private Management which will focus on ICT trainings.

Most recently, Tunisia and Libya signed a memorandum of understanding to increase cooperation between the two states in the areas of information and communication technologies and postal services, according to a TAP report.
