Today, the Tunisian Office of the Presidency issued a communiqué stating that President Moncef Marzouki sent a letter to American President Barack Obama conveying his condolences concerning the recent Aurora, Colorado movie theater shooting.

The message was sent on Monday, June 23rd, by President Marzouki:

“I received with deep sadness the news of the horrible shooting incident in Denver, Colorado where many innocent people were killed and tens were injured.  On behalf of all Tunisians—both [within] government and civilians—as well as on my own behalf, I extend our heartfelt condolences and sympathies at this difficult time to your excellence, to the victims’ families, and to all Americans.”

The incident in Aurora transpired last Friday. Twelve people were killed and more than 50 were injured when a masked gunman opened fire in a movie theater during the premier of the new Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises.
