The Tunisian men’s volleyball team was defeated by Serbia 3-1 on Tuesday during the Olympics Group B preliminary round.

The Serbian coach Igor Kolakovic’s players led against the Tunisian team in almost every single round. The final scores were 25-15 for the 1st round, 25-21 for the second, 20-25 for the third, 25-18 for the fourth.

The Serbians started losing control of the match in the second half of the second set, but they were soon able to rally and ultimately win the match. However, during the third set the Carthage Eagles dominated the floor, largely thanks to the successful efforts of the Tunisian receiver Noureddine Hfaiedh, and the outstanding blocks of Ahmed Kadhi.

Hamza Nagga also scored 22 points during the third set, further ensuring the Tunisian victory, and providing sorely needed energy to the Tunisian team. However the their momentum was soon lost to the Serbian player, Marko Podrascanin’s successful floater in the fourth set.

This is the second successive lost for the Tunisian volleyball team, who were beaten 3-0 by Brazil, the favorites to win the competition, in a previous match on the 29th of July.

The team is next set to play against Russia on the 2nd of August as they continue through the Group B preliminary rounds.
