Yesterday, Tunisian interim President Moncef Marzouki called the Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi to express his sympathy and heartfelt condolences for the deaths of 16 Egyptian soldiers, stated a release from the Office of the Presidency. The soldiers were murdered last sunday by 35 suspected Islamist militants at a military post near the borders of Gaza and Israel.

Marzouki also expressed condolences to the families of the victims on behalf of the Tunisian people and denounced the terrorist act, asserting that such acts of violence are always unacceptable.

The soldiers were buried yesterday during a national funeral which was aired live and attended by the Egyptian Minister of Defense, Houssin Tantawi, and several other government officials.
