Tunisian wrestler Bilel Ouechtati lost his first bout today in the Men’s 74kg Freestyle wrestling event, eliminating him from the tournament.

His match saw him square off against Kazakhstan’s Abdulkhakim Shapiyev. In the first period, each athlete score numerous times, with Ouechtati racking up three points to his opponents five. Try as he might, the Tunisian could not make up the point difference in the second period, as Shapiyev scored the sole point, winning him the match and advancing him to the next round.

There was still hope that Ouechtati could enter a repechage round, provided that Shapiyev was one of the eventual finalists. The Kazakh, however, lost his next bout, signaling Ouechtati’s exit from the event, empty handed.
