Tunisian canoer Khaled Houcine was eliminated today from the Men’s Canoe Single 200m semifinals, sending him home from London empty handed.

Houcine, who finished with a time of 44.373 seconds, came in seventh place in the semifinals, just shy of the top five necessary to advance.

The Tunisian fared slightly better in the first heat, finishing in fourth with a time of 44.395. Although he advanced to the semifinals, his ambitions would take him no farther and the African Champion would bow out of the contest.

Houcine’s performance was uncharacteristic for the athlete, who has enjoyed numerous successes on the international scene, participating in several African and World Championships. He returns home with his teammates Mohamed Ali Mrabet and Afef Ben Ismail, who experienced similar defeats in this year’s Olympics.
