Wissem Ben Slimen, head of the Manouba National Guard unit, was attacked by someone he described as a “Salafist” wielding a sharp object in the neighborhood of Douar Hicher in Manouba governorate on Saturday night.

Ben Slimen recounted the incident in a video that is available on Mosaïque FM’s website. He explained that his unit first received phone calls from distressed citizens following the breakout of a fight.

“There was a huge fight between bearded men, that subscribe to the Salafist movement, and people living in that neighborhood. They were even attacking people in their homes,” declared Ben Slimen in the video.

He added that to control the situation a first group of approximately 300 police officers was dispatched and then a second one of 350.

Sami Gnaoui, member of the National Guard union, told Mosaïque FM that the Ennour mosque located in Douar Hicher serves as headquarters for a Salafist group to which Ben Slimen’s aggressor belongs.

He then accused the group of carrying out patrols to prevent young people from drinking alcohol. Ben Slimen is hospitalized and in a stable condition.

Let’s see if I have this right: The Salifasts didn’t like that someone made a video, so instead of expressing themselves to that “SOMEONE”, they attacked the Embassy and a SCHOOL, where Muslim children attended, looted, caused the people of Tunis to lose income, tarnished the reputation of a beautiful country, caused tourists to not want to come and spend their money to help the economy, and now THEY patrol looking for alcohol vendors so THEY can take the matter into their hands. People are being injured and the country is being run by thugs. The video didn’t seem to bother Mohammad. So who speaks for him? THUGS?
So, use permanent paint guns to ID them, post their faces all over the country along with text from the Koran that show THESE people are the ones disgracing Mohammad. Turn the tables on THEM!
Using FEAR and VIOLENCE to promote their agenda is barbaric. The people of Tunisia, I thought, wanted to rise above all this and live in peace and harmony. Raise their children to understand people have differences but that we all have similarities as well. I am not aware of ANY religion that tells people to go out and do what the Salifasts have done. Harming THEIR own people and their country for their own power, surely is not something ANY religion promotes.
How many MORE incidents will occur? I am saddened for the people, the wonderful people of Tunis especially. To have their OWN people do harm to others and keep them from earning a living, is despicable!
Salifasts are really cowards, hiding behind and MANIPULATING their religion. I hope that Tunisians will be able to one day get their country back and live in peace. They deserve more than this.
I still don’t understand why if ONE person does something that the Salifasts think is disgraceful, they go after ALL people. Imagine if that were the case with 9/11 and the 30 countries represented decided to go after ALL Muslims. I just don’t understand. On a lighter note, maybe the Salifasts NEED to drink…

yep that about sums it all up and very well to….there have been videos showing them up to naughty stuff but of course these are ignored…..The god people in tunisia can no longer be excused for doing nothing…even if it silent protest against these people.

      • Terry says:

The problem IMHO is that the good people of Tunis do not have any ‘organization.’ They do not meet xxx times a day at a mosque to plan their attacks. There is no ONE leader to help organize them. NUMBERS speak volumes. People are afraid, and I understand, but remember TIANANMEN SQUARE incident? ONE Chinese stood against military TANKS!
The Salifasts get MEDIA and this gives them MORE motivation towards violence.
What will it take to bring peace?

    there s a saying(I quote): ” Argue with a fool, and he’ll throw you a stone”.

  3. dabbbouz says:

These Salafi patrols are trying to prevent illegal sales of alcohol, not preventing young people from drinking.

Somehow this revolution is allowing the idiots to think they are above the law. The illegal alcohol sellers feel a complete impunity to pursue their activities, the Salafi react by taking the law into their own hand and bypassing the rule of law…

what a mess. And withing all this chaos, the state is unable to enforce its authority.

Add to that, a media sector that is backward, represented in this article that is relying partially on radio accounts that are themselves impartial and taken from sources that are unreliable (i.e. liars). funny enough an article 2 days ago in Mosaique FM stated that their correspondent went to the mosque and found nothing illegal in there: ” http://www.mosaiquefm.net/index/a/ActuDetail/Element/25452-Douar-Hicher-Mosqu%C3%A9e-Ennour–%C3%A9tat-des-lieux.html

So tunisia-live…stop picking what suits you and report all the information. A 3 paragraph article is not worth publishing.

    • STEPHAN says:

obviously Dabbouz you don’t mind salafists taking the law in their own hands, attacking people; but what give them the right to do so? So far they ve managed to cause civil unrest, attacking students museums, desecrating Tunisian flags replacing them with their own black flag… you can’t go on criticizing and judging while exposing your biased point of view, publications such as Tunisia Live remind us that there might be still be hope for democracy. Those bigots have no right to decide what’s good or not for Tunisians they’ve just gained impunity since the last elections that taught everyone that religion has no place in politics, within a democracy.

      • dabbbouz says:

Settle down. Read my post again. I was criticizing the salafi, the alcohol sellers AND the government.

        • Greta says:

I agree that the problem here is lack of law and order, the absence of the state. This leads to all parts of society enforcing their own version of what is right and wrong. And this leads to conflict, especially in the poorer areas.

    • angela says:

So how many people were arrested and taken to jail? these people who behave like this are not representing religion they are just animals and thugs….they should be treated as such.

So now they can go into people’s homes (if reporting is correct) and do what they want….Can nobody see or care enough to do anything about this growing problem….

None of this has a good outcome for the country or its future

      • dabbbouz says:

how many got arrested ?…they are being shot at and killed….and rightfully so if you are ambulating with freaking swords and have in mind to sleigh people…Anybody with molotov, swords, knives or rifles should be sniped down by police.

btw, “So now they can go into people’s homes (if reporting is correct)”: if you are not sure about that…keep it for yourself.

        • dabbbouz says:

and to add, if you are throwing rocks you should have your feet shot at.

        • angela says:

Hi dabbouz I was asking how many got arrested because in some stories when the Salifast are involved they do not seem to pay a penalty. Sometimes also there are conflicting stories about an incident. that is why i postured if the story is correct….you seem to have missed the sarcasm when I said ‘so now they can go into people homes’. Not sure what your problem is.

I am not a Salifast or hold government position and have never drank alcohol. so shout at them not me
