A supposed bomb discovered yesterday in Tunisia’s central governorate of Kairouan has been determined by authorities to be both fake and harmless.

According to a source in Kairouan’s National Guard, the suspected explosive was discovered by a little girl in the bus station of Kairouan, and the police subsequently intervened to dismantle the device.

“The bomb was not harmful as it was not made of Trinitrotoluene (TNT) or any other dangerous chemical compound. When I saw it, I realized that it was not made by someone adept,” said the same source.

The bomb was made of filaments, two batteries, and a bottle of gas, the source reported, and an investigation has been opened to establish the identity of those responsible for the making of the device.

“Such a bomb was constructed to spread terror in Kairouan,” he reckoned.

According to a source in Kairouan’s local government, another bomb with the same characteristics was discovered 3 days ago in front of the regional station of Tunisian radio Sabra FM.
