A cold front will hit Tunisia this Thursday, likely lasting until Sunday, according to the Tunisian National Institute for Meteorology (INM).

It will not be as severe as the cold snap last winter, where snow in regions such as Ain Draham, El Kef, and Thala blocked roads and even limited access to food, said Abderazzak Rahal, head of forecasting at INM.

According to the weather forecast, it will be rainy and cloudy in the northern region of Tunisia; temperatures will continue to decrease gradually starting on Thursday.

Rahal said that agriculture can actually benefit from cold weather and that some days of low temperatures are necessary for crops.

“A high number of chilly hours will affect the harvest positively,” he said.

INM is charged with producing public weather forecasts and supports research groups in meteorology and geophysics.

if the cold affects people so badly and this is known then the government should already have programs in place. This is a distinct lack of care which is becoming clearer and clearer.

If the cold is so bad that it makes people suffer badly then a request for help should be sent out to international sources. A quick response could save lives.
