As the first signs of spring roll in from the sea, Tunis is inundated
with cultural activities this week.  The World Press Photo association
will open an exhibition in Belvedere to showcase the best photography
from 2011 and 2012.  In downtown Tunis, an exhibit of young Tunisia artists,
entitled “Pendus…Suspendus,” opens on February 22.  Try to also catch
the last few days of “Symphony of Lights” in Sidi Bou Said.

As for theater, two small festivals that feature original and amateur
drama from the Arab world will run through this weekend.  For
something more flashy, check out “Made in Tunisia is Back,” an encore
national tour of the popular one man show satire by Lotfi Abdelli.

People with a penchant for old films should be sure to attend
screenings of “The Mad Masters” and “Les Fellaghas” at Taher Hadad
Cultural Club in the Medina.  “Karroussa,” a quirky political comedy,
will be showing at Al Hambra in La Marsa.

This week is a music lover’s delight, with something for every taste.
Traditional Tunisian music will be presented by Rachidia at the
Municipal Theater, followed by an Italian opera in honor of Verdi’s
birthday and a performance by the Tunisian Symphonic Orchestra early
next week.  For children, be sure to stop by “Choralia,” a musical
show catering to younger tastes.  The final weekend of the Young
Virtuosos series offers three days of guest performances at Dar
Ennejma Ezzahra in Sidi Bou Said.

Our literate readers can join in book discussions at a number of local
libraries.  Authors around Tunis will be presenting their works on
topics ranging from post-revolutionary art, the role of religion in the Tunisian educational system, and religious history.

But enough with appreciating other’s creations – move around and be
the art you would like to see in the world! Maison de arts in Menzah V is offering an open house with free classes for Hatha Yoga and Tribal
Dance Saturday afternoon.
