Tunisian National Guard anticipate a protest in downtown Tunis in June 2012

Tunisia’s National Guard units seized a cache of arms yesterday, including Kalashnikovs, rocket-propelled grenades (RPJs), ammunition, and explosive materials in a house located in the district of Mnihla, in the governorate of Ariana, according to a statement from the official Facebook page of the Ministry of Interior.

The same statement said that patrols had managed to arrest 13 suspects, including 11 who were hiding inside Ennour mosque in the neighborhood of Douar Hicher in Manouba governorate.

Tunisian news agency TAP reported that the owner of the house where the arms were seized has been arrested. An investigation is underway to identify the people involved in the affair and to determine whether the weapons are part of an arms smuggling or terrorist operation.

Just last month, National Guard units confiscated a large amount of arms in Medenine that was stored in two separate warehouses.
