Bayrouth Cafe

21 August 2011 | 5 Comments

At first glance, Bayrouth Cafe (Beirut Cafe) is just a small cafe located next to the Dumpukht Indian Restaurant in Berges du Lac 1 in Tunis. Like passing through a small gate and discovering palatial Tunisian villa, looks are deceiving.

The setting of Bayrouth Cafe is modern and functional, but what shines about this restaurant is the most important thing: the food. The restaurant serves up Lebanese classics: hummus, tabouleh, kofteh and kebab that are as authentic as it gets in Tunisia. Whether you come for a plate of mixed grill or a sampling of mezze (appetizers), Restaurant Beirut will not leave you disappointed.

Tunisia Live dined with two companions and ordered the Mezze Combination menu: Four hot mezze and four cold mezze for 32 Dinars. We chose sojok (small sausages), tabouleh, grape leaves, hummus with meat, and lebneh with garlic. We doubled up on the sojok and tabouleh, as those were two favorites that we had sampled while previously on vacation in Lebanon.

The presentation and serving size were more than adequate. The mezze menu was more than enough to feed three people, and it would even be enough to serve up to five. Bayrouth Cafe also provided adequate pita bread for the various dips.

Generally, the food tasted extremely close to what is found in Lebanon. The tabouleh was excellent, as was the hummus with meat. The sojok was good, but a bit different from the flavor found in Lebanon. It is still worth an order given the high standards of comparison. Everything was prepared with fresh ingredients.  It is safe to say that everything ordered gets a recommendation from Tunisia Live.

The service was prompt and friendly, and the food arrived quickly after ordering. The wait staff was very attentive and was glad to serve us.

If you’re craving food from the Middle East in Tunis at reasonable prices, Tunisia Live recommends Bayrouth Cafe. It is also a great place for vegetarians. Reservations not required.
