Le Boeuf Sur Le Toit (The Bull on the Roof), located in the Tunis suburb of La Soukra offers a unique experience for those looking for a fun night out. It is divided into two parts on the inside, “Le Boeuf” on the left and “Boeuffy” (pronounced ‘Buffy’) on the right.
“Le Boeuf” is a restaurant that is comfortable enough. “Boeuffy” is a rock and roll bar designed as a live concert venue where local bands play every night of the week. If you’re looking for a quieter night out, make a reservation for “Le Boeuf”, the restaurant. If you are, however, looking to ‘rock out’ then make a reservation for “Boeuffy”. Food is available in both branches – in fact, it is the same menu.
The food itself has improved since last year. The menu has been completely re-done. Tunisia Live’s reporter ordered the Chicken Escalope Cordon Bleu and found it slightly above average. It came with a small salad and a plate of fries for 14 DT. The Entrecote looked appetizing and was quite a large portion. It cost 26 DT.
That being said, most people do not come to Le Boeuf Sur Le Toit for the food. There is nothing there that will overly wow the taste buds. What most people come for is to drink, go out, dance and enjoy the atmosphere and music at “Boeuffy”. “Boeuffy” attracts mostly a young crowd of 20s-30s Tunisians and Ex-Pats (although there are older people as well!) who come to listen to the live bands while enjoying a cold beer or a bottle of wine. Imported alcohol and whiskey is also available by the bottle. Celtia is a 5DT/bottle and expect to pay approximately 25 DT/bottle for a decent wine.
The most popular bands come on Wednesday and Friday nights. On Wednesday there is a band that plays a selection of world music and sings in English, French and Arabic. On Friday nights is a band that performs mostly 90s alternative rock classics in English. Both are highly recommended.
If you’re looking for a fun place to party and to cut loose, “Boeuffy” in Le Boeuf Sur Le Toit comes highly recommended. Reservations are obligatory. On the phone please specify whether you want a table in “Le Boeuf” or “Boeuffy” – the manager speaks English, wait staff speak French and Arabic.
