Habib Khedher

Habib Khedher is a young politician currently serving in Tunisia’s National Constituent Assembly (NCA) as the head of the Public Authorities Subcommittee. He is currently a member of the central office of legal affairs in the moderate Islamist Ennahda party.

Khedher was born on January 8th, 1971, in Hamma, Gabes. He attended primary and seconday school in his hometown and moved to Sousse to pursue his higher education, majoring in law. Khedher then attended Tunis’ University of Law and Poltical Sciences to pursue his master’s degree in law of contracts and investments.

Habib Khedher has been working as a lawyer since 2000, and as a professor in the University of Tunis since 2002. He is the author of two books that were published in Egypt in 2008 and several political and legal articles that were published in a variety of Tunisian magazines.

Khedher started his political career in 1991 by representing other students in the National Scientific Council. He has been also an advocate of Islamist ideology in Tunisia. Because of this, he was imprisoned – twice – for short periods of time during the Ben Ali era.

Habib Khedher is married and has one son.
