Khalil Zaouia

Khalil Zaouia is one of the founding members of the Ettakatol Party — Democratic Forum of Liberties and Labour. He has been involved in the party since 1994. He is minister of social affairs in the interim government.

Ettakatol received 20 seats, the fourth highest number of seats in the Constituent Assembly’s elections on October 23rd and is likely to hold major positions in the new government.

Since Ettakatol was legalized in 2002, Zaouia has been tasked with Ettakatol’s international affairs. He was the head of the Ettakatol list in the Tunis 2 district and is now a member of the Constituent Assembly.

Aside from politics, Zaouia is the head of the orthopedic department in the La Marsa hospital in Tunis.

Ettakatol has been a part of ongoing negotiations with two other winners of the elections — Ennahdha and CPR — to form the new government. Although unconfirmed, given Zaouia’s expertise in the public health and medical sectors, he served as Minister of Public Health in the new transitional government until legislative elections on October 23, 2011.

Khalil Zaouia was born July 1961 in Tunis. He’s an alumnus of the School of Medicine at the University of Tunis.
